The Red Planet Mars has already caught our attention a long, long time ago: its bright red appearance in the sky is hard to miss. We've been looking for signs of life there ever since. 19th century astronomer Giovanni Schiaparelli thought he saw dark lines on the surface that he called 'canali', misleadingly translated as 'canals' in English. More recently, in 2019, scientists claimed to have found fossilized bacteria in meteorites coming from the planet.
