Presentation prof. dr. Bernard Jones: "The Conscious Universe" with full dome simulations:
"The Greeks, the Vikings, and others thought they had the ultimate understanding of their known Universe: their knowledge was mostly used to cast horoscopes. Terry Pratchett wrote about a group of Wizards who understood the Universe as the Discworld - a flat world on the back of a turtle. By modern standards, all were far from the truth a we see it. Now we believe we finally have the full story.
Are we being presumptuous? Our understanding is the consequence of human consciousness. Could we possibly be wrong? Are there any alternatives? Can we believe that we are the greatest consciousnesses in the Universe? How can we be so sure of ourselves?"
Bernard Jones is an Emeritus Professor of the University of Groningen and, for the past 50 years, has been involved in the development of our current understanding of the Universe. He is the author of a major textbook on modern cosmology: "Precision Cosmology".
